Resumo A fração solúvel de petróleo (WSF) prejudica os organismos, porém os danos podem variar entre os níveis celular e tecidual. O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar o efeito agudo (24 h, 48 h e 72 h) e subcrônico (36 dias) da WSF (0%, 25% e 100%) em juvenis do peixe neotropical predador topo Hoplias aff. malabaricus. Os efeitos da WSF foram avaliados no nível molecular utilizando o ensaio do cometa e o teste do micronúcleo para o dano genômico e no nível morfológico através da identificação histológica de lesões patológicas no fígado. Em ambas exposições (aguda e subcrônica) encontramos baixos níveis de dano no DNA (< 10% de DNA na cauda do cometa) e frequência de micronúcleos não significativa em peixes expostos a WSF. As lesões mais significativas no fígado dos peixes expostos a WSF foram a vacuolização lipídica, hipertrofia e focos de necroses. Como estas lesões foram progressivas e persistentes, sua irreversibilidade pode afetar negativamente o recrutamento dos peixes, mesmo sendo um predador topo resistente.

Abstract Petroleum water soluble fraction (WSF) impairs organisms, but damages may vary among cell and tissue levels. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the acute (24 h, 48 h, 72 h) and subchronic effects (36 days) of WSF (0%, 25% and 100%) in juveniles of the Neotropical top predator fish Hoplias aff. malabaricus. The effects of WSF were evaluated at a molecular level using the comet assay and micronucleus test for genome damage; and at a morphological level through histological identification of liver pathologic lesions. In both acute and subchronic exposure we found low levels of DNA damage (< 10% of comet tail) and non-significant frequency of micronucleus in WSF exposed fish. The most significant liver lesions in WSF exposed fish were fatty vacuolization, hypertrophy and focal necrosis. Since these tissue injuries were progressive and persistent, their irreversibility may negatively affect fish recruitment, even in a such resistant top predator.

Resumo Alguns estudos relatam o efeito positivo de resíduos orgânicos de formigueiros nas propriedades do solo e na estrutura da comunidade de plantas adjacentes em experimentos de campo, mas há uma lacuna sobre o efeito em espécies individuais. O objetivo do presente estudo foi comparar o desenvolvimento de Turnera subulata Smith, uma espécie ornamental, na presença do substrato de descarte (SD) de formigueiros produzido pela formiga cortadeira Acromyrmex balzani (Emery, 1890) por meio de experimento em casa de vegetação. O experimento foi conduzido com dois tratamentos: solo controle e solo com 25% de SD. As plantas foram mantidas em vasos de 1L por 90 dias. Foram avaliados os parâmetros: altura da planta, diâmetro do caule, comprimento da raiz, número de folhas, massa seca da raiz, biomassa seca e fresca da parte aérea. Além disso, o conteúdo relativo de clorofila e os nutrientes foliares foram usados como parâmetros fisiológicos. Como resultado, as plantas que cresceram no solo com SD apresentaram valores significativamente maiores de todos os parâmetros avaliados quando comparadas ao tratamento controle (p < 0.001). Concluímos que esse biofertilizante contribuiu para a produção de plantas mais vigorosas, podendo atuar na dinâmica local de nutrientes nos ecossistemas onde A. balzani ocorre. Além disso, por ser relativamente abundante e fácil de coletar, o SD de A. balzani tem potencial para ser utilizado como biofertilizante na produção de plantas de ciclo de vida curta.

Abstract Some studies report the positive effect of organic residues from ant nests on soil properties and on the structure of the adjacent plant community in field experiments, but there is a gap about the effect on individual species. The purpose of the present study was to compare the soil nutrient content and the development of Turnera subulata Smith, an ornamental species, in the presence of the nest refuse (basically composed of fragments of grass leaves and the symbiotic fungus) produced by the leaf-cutting ant Acromyrmex balzani (Emery, 1890) or in control soil through a greenhouse pot experiment. The experiment was carried out with two treatments: control soil and soil with 25% of nest refuse. The plants were kept in 1L pots for 90 days. We evaluated the parameters: plant height, stem diameter, root length, number of leaves, dry weight of the root, dry and fresh aboveground biomass. Additionally, the relative chlorophyll content and leaf nutrients were used as nutritional parameters. As a result, plants that grew in the soil with nest refuse showed significant higher values of all parameters evaluated when compared to the control treatment (p < 0.001). We conclude that this biofertilizer contributed to the production of more vigorous plants, being able to act on the local dynamics of nutrients in the ecosystems where A. balzani occurs. As it is relatively abundant and easy to collect, the refuse of A. balzani has the potential to be used as an alternative substrate in the production of shortlife cycle plants.

Abstract The lack of water during crop growth causes damage to any production system, especially when it occurs during the initial establishment or beginning of the reproductive stage. Although cotton can be properly managed in regions with water limitation, its yield is affected at different levels according to the genetics of the cultivar adopted. Exogenous application of some organic components has shown a stress-mitigating effect and can be a valuable procedure to enhance the yield of water stress-sensitive cultivars. The objective of this work was to evaluate the benefits of exogenous application of pyruvic acid (100 µM) in cotton plants under water deficit varying the phenological stage of the crop. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse, where the plants were grown in pots and subjected to seven days of water suspension, initiated individually in stages V2 and B1. Each pot contained two plants. The treatments adopted were: T1 - control, T2 - water suppression; and T3 - water suppression + pyruvate application. The design was randomized blocks in a factorial scheme (3 × 3) with three replicates. The reductions in gas exchange and growth of the cultivars BRS Seridó, CNPA 7MH and FM 966 were more significant in the reproductive stage, especially for FM 966, which was more sensitive. Pyruvate application reduced the effects of water suppression on boll production by 31% in BRS Seridó and 34% in CNPA 7MH and FM 966.

Resumo A falta d’água durante o crescimento da cultura traz prejuízos em qualquer sistema de produção, especialmente quando ocorre durante o estabelecimento inicial ou início da fase reprodutiva. O algodoeiro, apesar de ter larga habilidade para manejo em regiões com limitação hídrica, tem o rendimento afetado, com níveis diferenciados em função da genética do cultivar adotado. A aplicação exógena de alguns componentes orgânicos tem demonstrado efeito mitigador do estresse podendo ser um aditivo valioso para impulsionar a produtividade de cultivares sensíveis ao estresse hídrico. Neste trabalho, objetivou-se avaliar os benefícios da aplicação exógena de ácido pirúvico (100 µM) em algodoeiros sob déficit hídrico variando a fase fenológica da cultura. O ensaio foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, onde as plantas foram cultivadas em vasos e submetidas a sete dias de suspensão hídrica, iniciadas, individualmente, nas fases V2 e B1. Cada vaso conteve duas plantas. Os tratamentos adotados foram: T1- controle, T2 - supressão hídrica; T3- supressão hídrica + aplicação de piruvato. O delineamento foi em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial (3 × 3) com três repetições. Foi observado que as reduções nas trocas gasosas e crescimento das cultivares BRS Seridó, CNPA 7MH e FM 966 foram mais expressivas na fase reprodutiva, especialmente da última que se mostrou mais sensível. A aplicação de piruvato mitigou os efeitos da supressão hídrica sobre a produção de capulhos 31% na BRS Seridó e 34% em CNPA 7MH e FM 966.

ABSTRACT This work is concerned with the Cauchy problem for a Zakharov system with initial data in Sobolev spaces H k ( ℝ d ) × H l ( ℝ d ) × H l - 1 ( ℝ d ). We recall the well-posedness and ill-posedness results known to date and establish new ill-posedness results. We prove C 2 ill-posedness for some new indices ( k , l ) ∈ ℝ 2. Moreover, our results are valid in arbitrary dimension. We believe that our detailed proofs are built on a methodical approach and can be adapted to obtain similar results for other systems and equations.

Abstract Salinity is harmful to crops when the concentration of soluble salts overcomes the salinity threshold of the crop, causing osmotic stress and limitations in plant growth. In this scenario, adopting tolerant cultivars is the most adequate strategy to minimize agricultural losses. However, the inheritance of tolerance depends on the genotype. From this perspective, this study assessed the tolerance to severe salt stress in 11 cotton cultivars based on gas exchange parameters and the free proline content. The cultivars were grown in a greenhouse and subjected to 34 days of saline irrigation (10 dS m-1), starting 45 days after seedling emergence (B1 phase). Plant growth was monitored weekly until the end of the salt stress period. The treatments consisted of a combination of two factors: eleven cultivars associated with two electrical conductivity levels of irrigation water (ECw: 0.3 and 10.0 dS m-1). The experimental design was in randomized blocks in a 11 × 2 factorial arrangement with three replications (66 plots), with the experimental unit consisting of one plant per plot. Salinity impacted plant growth, being reflected on the gas exchange and free proline data of most cultivars. However, BRS 286, FMT 705, BRS 416, and BRS Acácia, and CNPA 7MH withstood the effects of stress and osmotically adjusted to the salt stress conditions, thus minimizing the damage to growth. Those cultivars are the most indicated for improvement programs aiming at tolerance to salt stress based on the results found in this research.

Resumo A salinidade é danosa as lavouras quando a concentração de sais solúveis ultrapassa a salinidade limiar da cultura, gerando estresse osmótico e limitações no crescimento das plantas. A adoção de cultivares tolerantes é a estratégia mais adequada para minimizar prejuízos agrícolas, porém a herança de tolerância é genótipo-dependente. Neste trabalho, a tolerância ao estresse salino severo em onze cultivares de algodão foi avaliada, baseando-se nas trocas gasosas e no teor de prolina livre. As cultivares foram crescidas em casa de vegetação e submetidas a 34 dias de irrigação salina (10 dS m-1), iniciada aos 45 dias de emergência das plântulas (fase B1). O crescimento das plantas foi monitorado semanalmente até o final do período de estresse salino. Os tratamentos consistiram na combinação de dois fatores: 11 cultivares, associadas a dois níveis de condutividade elétrica da água de irrigação (0,3 e 10,0 dS m-1). O delineamento foi em blocos ao acaso, em esquema fatorial 11 × 2, com 3 repetições, sendo a unidade experimental constituída por uma planta por parcela. A salinidade afetou o crescimento das plantas, refletido nos dados de trocas gasosas e prolina livre na maioria das cultivares, no entanto, BRS 286, FMT 705, BRS 416 e BRS Acácia e CNPA 7MH demonstraram habilidade para superar o efeito do estresse e se ajustar osmoticamente, minimizando os danos no crescimento. Essas cultivares são as mais indicadas para trabalhos de aprimoramento visando a tolerância ao estresse salino, de acordo com os resultados encontrados neste trabalho.

Abstract A hemispherical dielectric lens antenna is proposed to provide beam-steering for communication networks operating in X-band. Two different printed antennas are simultaneously used to guarantee high performance and diversity of applications, one a wideband linear polarized antenna, and the other a narrowband circular polarized antenna. To ensure this, the design relies on adding printed angled feeders correctly positioned in relation to the center of a homogeneous dielectric lens. A prototype was simulated, fabricated and tested. The measured results show that the antenna is capable of operating from 8.0 GHz to 12 GHz (gain of 14.2 dBi) or 9.5 GHz to 10 GHz (gain of 17.52 dBi).

Resumo Atualmente, os anestésicos disponíveis para peixes podem produzir efeitos colaterais importantes, incluindo parada respiratória e sofrimento. Alternativas de fácil implementação e baixa toxicidade são necessárias para garantir a saúde dos peixes, bem como para auxiliar a pesca artesanal e os vendedores de pescado no manuseio e transporte do pescado, e as plantas nativas parecem ser a melhor alternativa. Nosso objetivo foi implementar um protocolo anestésico utilizando extratos etanólicos brutos de flores e folhas de duas plantas amazônicas, Acmella oleracea e Piper alatabaccum. Primeiro testamos os extratos para anestesia, usando o peixe-zebra como modelo. Embora em alguns tratamentos os animais aparentemente tenham entrado em anestesia profunda, muitos deles apresentaram comportamentos aberrantes e até morreram. Assim, realizamos novos experimentos testando os efeitos dos extratos em epilepsia dos peixes. Apenas o extrato de folhas de A. oleracea tem efeitos potenciais para anestesia de peixes. Tanto o extrato de flores desta planta quanto o extrato de folhas de P. alatabaccum induziram um comportamento semelhante a convulsões nos animais. Em conclusão, além de trazer um possível novo protocolo anestésico para peixes, nosso trabalho chama a atenção para os efeitos neurotóxicos que as soluções anestésicas podem causar, uma vez que vários estudos defendem outras espécies de Piper como anestésico para peixes e o extrato de flores de A. oleracea já foi apontado como anestésico para peixe.

Abstract Currently, available fish anesthetics can produce important side effects, including respiratory arrest and distress. Easy-to-implement alternatives with low toxicity are needed to ensure fish health as well as to help artisanal fisheries and fish sellers in handling and transporting fishes, and native plants seems to be the best alternative. We aimed to implement an anesthetic protocol using crude ethanolic extracts from flowers and leaves of two Amazonian plants, the Acmella oleracea and Piper alatabaccum. We first tested the extracts for anesthesia, using the zebrafish as model. Even though in some treatments the animals apparently entered deep anesthesia, many of them presented aberrant behaviors and even died. Thus, we performed new experiments testing the extracts effects on seizure-like behaviors of the fish. Only the leaf extract of A. oleracea has potential effects for fish anesthesia. Both the flower extract from this plant and the leaf extract from P. alatabaccum induced seizure-like behavior in the animals. In conclusion, besides bringing a possible new anesthetic protocol for fish, our work draws attention for the neurotoxic effects the anesthetic solutions may cause, since several studies defend other Piper species as anesthetic for fish and A. oleracea flowers’ extract was already pointed as fish anesthetic.

Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi descrever o uso de plantas medicinais para alívio e tratamento de patologias em pediatria realizado por pais de crianças cadastradas em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, observacional e analítico, que ocorreu nos meses de março a maio de 2016, com a participação de 176 indivíduos, utilizando como instrumento de investigação um questionário semiestruturado. Para análise dos dados aplicou-se a estatística descritiva, com uso da distribuição de frequências e o teste do qui-quadrado. Das 177 indicações de uso medicinal de plantas na infância, considerando a parte da planta utilizada e sua forma de uso, 61,6% convergiram com os dados científicos, 21,5% divergiram e 16,9% foram novas indicações, sem registro semelhante na literatura. Esses resultados, ao mesmo tempo em que respaldam o uso popular de plantas medicinais, apontam a necessidade de maior conscientização sobre o uso racional da fitoterapia e estimulam a investigação científica, pois trazem novos elementos sobre o potencial terapêutico de diferentes espécies.

Abstract This study aimed to describe the use of medicinal plants for the relief and treatment of pediatrics pathologies performed by parents of children registered in a Basic Health Unit. This is a cross-sectional, observational and analytical study that occurred from March until May 2016, with the participation of 176 individuals, using a semi-structured questionnaire as a research instrument. Descriptive statistics were applied for data analysis, using frequency distribution and chi-square test. Among all 177 indications of medicinal use of plants in childhood, considering the plant part and administration method, 61.6% converged with scientific data, 21.5% differed and 16.9% were new indications without a similar record in the literature. These results support the popular use of medicinal plants and show to need for greater awareness about the rational use of phytotherapy and stimulate scientific research, as they bring new elements about the therapeutic potential of different species.

ABSTRACT In the last years, the agricultural systems based on Crop-Livestock-Forestry integration have emerged as a potential solution due to its capacity to maximize land use and reduces the effects of high temperatures on the animals. Within these systems, there exist an interest in technological solutions capable of monitor the animals in real-time. From this monitoring, one of the main interest is to know if an animal is in the sun or in the shade of a tree by using some environmental measures. However, as there is a possibility that the weather is cloudy, real-time monitoring also needs to identify this case. That is, the real-time monitoring also needs to differentiate the shade of a tree from a cloudy weather. The interest in this kind of monitoring is due to the fact that an animal that remains a long time under a shade of a tree provides substantial insights to indicate if this is in thermal stress. This information can be used in decision-making with the goal to reduce the impact of the thermal stress and consequently to provide welfare to the animal and reduces the financial losses. As a solution to identify if an animal is in the sun or in the shade of a tree or if the weather is cloudy, we developed an electronic device, used to capture values of environmental variables, which integrated with a mathematical model predicts the shade state (sun, shade or cloudy) where the animal can be found. We illustrate the performance of the proposed solution in a real data set.

Abstract In this case study, the fatigue security of a bridge designed in 1987 was examined considering the current Brazilian standard. A structural model was developed to determine and verify fatigue security in the most critical section considering the Brazilian Load Model and the literature’s vehicle spectrum. According to the stress variation method, it concludes that the concrete submitted to compression meets the minimum criteria, but the steel section is not enough to resist shearing and flexural stresses. Pursuant to the Palmgren-Miner rule, the fatigue service life of the reinforcement’s bars under flexural stress is 14,91 years. A more detailed structural analysis of the bridge and the vehicle spectrum is necessary to confirm these results.

Resumen En este estudio, se verificó la seguridad a la fatiga de un puente proyectado en 1987 según la normativa brasileña vigente. Se construyó un modelo estructural para determinar y verificar la sección más crítica considerando el modelo estándar brasileño y el espectro de vehículos en la literatura. Según el método de variación de esfuerzos, se concluye que el hormigón sometido a compresión cumple con los criterios, pero la sección de acero no es suficiente para resistir los esfuerzos cortantes y de flexión. Por la regla de Palmgren-Miner, la vida útil a la fatiga de las armaduras sometidas a flexión es de 13,91 años. Es necesario un análisis más detallado de la estructura y del espectro de carga para confirmar estos resultados.

Resumo Nesse estudo de caso, a segurança à fadiga de uma ponte projetada em 1987 foi verificada segundo a norma vigente brasileira. Elaborou-se um modelo estrutural para determinar e verificar a seção mais crítica considerando o trem-tipo e o espectro de veículos da literatura. Segundo o método de limitação de variação de tensões, conclui-se que o concreto sujeito à compressão atende aos critérios, mas a área de aço não é suficiente para combater os esforços cortante e de flexão. Pela regra de Palmgren Miner, a vida útil à fadiga nas armaduras sujeitas à flexão é de 14,91 anos. Uma análise mais detalhada da estrutura e do espectro de veículos é necessária para reiterar tais resultados.

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of ectoparasites in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) of family-commercial breeding in the district of Matahuasi, Junín, Peru, as well as to identify parasitic species, type of parasitic association and evaluate the association between the presence of ectoparasites and the productive stage and sex variables. A total of 299 guinea pigs were evaluated between January and March 2017. Ectoparasites were collected using four techniques (deep skin scraping, adhesive tape, trichogram and fine combing). The ectoparasites were examined by direct observation under the microscope at 10X and 40X, and in some cases they were rinsed with 10% KOH. The prevalence of ectoparasites was 67.0 ± 5.3%, identifying three species of acariforms (63.0 ± 5.5%) and one species of Phthiraptera (12.0 ± 3.7%). Among the acariforms, Ornithonyssus bursa (53%), Chirodiscoides caviae (15%) and Dermanyssus gallinae (7%) were identified. The Phthiraptera species was Gliricola porcelli (12%). Monoparasitism was the most frequent (75%). No significant association was found between the presence of ectoparasites and the productive stage and sex variables.

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio fue determinar la prevalencia de ectoparásitos en cuyes (Cavia porcellus) de crianza familiar-comercial en el distrito de Matahuasi, Junín, Perú, así como identificar las especies parasitarias, tipo de asociación parasitaria y evaluar la asociación entre la presencia de ectoparásitos y las variables etapa productiva y sexo. Se evaluaron 299 cuyes entre enero y marzo de 2017. Los ectoparásitos fueron recolectados mediante cuatro técnicas (raspado profundo de piel, cinta adhesiva, tricograma y peinado fino). Los ectoparásitos fueron examinados por observación directa al microscopio a 10X y 40X, y en algunos casos fueron aclarados con KOH al 10%. Se encontró una prevalencia de 67.0 ± 5.3%, identificándose tres especies de acariformes (63.0 ± 5.5%) y una especie de Phthiraptera (12.0 ± 3.7%). Dentro de los acariformes se identificó Ornithonyssus bursa (53%), Chirodiscoides caviae (15%) y Dermanyssus gallinae (7%). La especie Phthiraptera fue Gliricola porcelli (12%). El monoparasitismo fue el más frecuente (75%). No se encontró asociación significativa entre la presencia de ectoparásitos y las variables etapa productiva y sexo.

Abstract Small strains are consistently incorporated into a large rotation piezoelectric beam theory, where the displacement is assumed to vary in accordance with the Timoshenko assumption and the electric potential has linear variation through each piezoelectric layer thickness. A finite element for planar frames, based on the total Lagrangian description, is then developed. The displacements and rotation are linearly approximated over the element and the voltage in a piezoelectric sensor layer is taken to be constant. In addition to the well-known membrane and shear lockings, it is disclosed the presence of locking in the application of Gauss law to the piezoelectric sensor layers. All the mechanical and electrical contributions to the internal load vectors are evaluated using a reduced one-point Gaussian quadrature to make this simple element efficient. No spurious modes are introduced in this process. An incremental-iterative approach, based on the Newton-Raphson algorithm, is employed in the solutions of the numerical examples to illustrate the large rotation capability of the developed model.

Abstract At present, there is an increasing need to integrate ceramic materials with insulating properties for housing construction (for energy saving), mainly in areas where extreme temperature occurs. The objective of this work was to synthesize low-cost glass-ceramic foams, using recycled glass and waste materials near to Chihuahua city, Mexico, such as pumice and limestone mineral residues; the last one was used as a foaming material. The precursors were grounded, pressed forming pellets by cold pressing, and subsequently sintered using different conditions of temperature and time. The thermal conductivity, compressive strength, bulk density, actual density and percent expansion of prepared samples were evaluated and discussed in this work. Based on the experimentation, we found that optimum sintering time for this material is 20 minutes. Following this cheap and convenient procedure, a sample obtained at 800°C showed the best properties with a density of 0.44 g/cm3 and a thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.096 W/m K. These values indicated that is feasible to synthesize these foams construction industry applications working as appropriate thermal insulators.

RESUMEN Objetivo. Evaluar el efecto del aceite crudo de palma (ACP) sobre la calidad del huevo almacenado por varios días a diferentes temperaturas. Materiales y métodos. Un total de 240 gallinas de 28 semanas se alimentaron con dietas con 30g/kg de aceite de soya (AS) o ACP. Después de 12 semanas, muestras de huevos se almacenaron durante 0, 4, 8 y 12 días a 4, 12 y 24°C. Las características de calidad del huevo fueron evaluadas. Resultados. El huevo y la albúmina de gallinas en la dieta con ACP fueron más pesados que aquellos en la dieta con AS (p<0.05). La alta temperatura de almacenamiento redujo el peso del huevo, albúmina y yema, unidades Haugh (UH), altura de la albúmina y la yema, pH y color (p<0.05), pero aumentó el ancho de la albúmina y la yema, y la longitud de la albúmina (p<0.05). A medida que aumentaba el tiempo de almacenamiento, el peso del huevo, el peso y la altura de la albúmina, y la altura de la yema, el pH y el color se redujeron (p<0.05). Sin embargo, el peso y el ancho de la yema, el ancho y la longitud de la albúmina aumentaron (p<0.05). La interacción aceite x tiempo de almacenamiento (p<0.05) indico que la altura de la albumina, UH y el color de la yema de los huevos de la dieta con ACP fueron mejores a los 12 días de almacenamiento que en la dieta con AS. Conclusiones. Las gallinas en la dieta con ACP tuvieron huevos y albuminas más pesadas que las de las de la adieta con AS. La calidad del huevo disminuyó conforme el tiempo y temperatura de almacenamiento se incrementó, pero, los huevos de las gallinas suplementadas con ACP tuvieron mejor calidad en algunas características a los 12 días de almacenamiento.

ABSTRACT Objective. Evaluate the effect of crude palm oil (CPO) on quality traits of eggs stored various days at different temperatures. Material and Methods. A total of 240 hens, 28 weeks of age were fed diets with 30 g/kg of soybean oil (SO) or CPO. After 12 weeks, sample of eggs were stored during 0, 4, 8 and 12 days at 4, 12 and 24 °C. Egg quality traits were evaluated. Results. Egg and albumen from hens in CPO diet were heavier than those in SO (p<0.05). High storage temperature reduced egg, albumen and yolk weights, Haugh units (HU), albumen and yolk heights, pH and color (p<0.05), but increased albumen and yolk widths and albumen length (p<0.05). As storage time increased, egg weight, albumen weight and height, and yolk height, pH and colour were reduced (p<0.05). However, yolk weight and width, albumen width and length increased (p<0.05). Oil x storage time interaction (p<0.05) indicated that albumen height, HU and yellowness of yolk from hens in CPO diets were better at 12 days of storage than for hens fed SO. Conclusions. Hens in CPO diet had heavier eggs and albumen than those in SO diet. Egg quality traits decreased as temperature and days of storage increased, but, eggs from hens supplemented CPO had better quality in some traits at 12 days of storage.

Abstract: Objective: Determine the association between clinical characteristics and laboratory studies with the type of isolated microorganism in blood cultures of patients with Pyogenic Spondylodiscitis. Material and methods: It is a cross-analytical study, clinical records of patients with Pyogenic Spondylodiscitis were reviewed from January 2013 to January 2017. Univariate descriptive analysis was performed using frequencies and percentages for qualitative variables, central trend measures and dispersion for quantitative ones. Bivariate analysis by testing of χ2 or Fisher’s exact test. Analysis of quantitative variables using T Student or Mann-Whitney U. Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used. Considering statistical significance p < 0.05. Results: A sample of 34 patients was obtained, 20 (58%) were women, median (Me) of age 60 years (52-66). Was isolated into blood cultures, Gram-positive bacteria 11 (32.4%) gram negatives 23 (67.6%). The microorganism most common isolate was Escherichia coli 12 (35.3%). Patients with Gram-negative spondylodiscitis had mild pain and globular sedimentation rate (VSG) Me 26 mm/hra P (18-36), patients with Gram-positive spondylodyscitis had severe pain and VSG Me 38 mm/h P (34-40) (p= 0.000 and 0.028, respectively). VSG and pain in the group of patients with gram-negative bacteria spondylodiscitis had a moderate Spearman correlation coefficient of 0.418, (p = 0.047); in the Gram positives group, a low correlation coefficient of Spearman 0.228, (p = 0.507). Conclusion: There is a clinical and statistical association significant between types of isolated microorganism in blood culture, pain intensity valued on analog visual scale (EVA) and VSG levels.

Resumen: Objetivo: Determinar la asociación entre las características clínicas y estudios de laboratorio con el tipo de microorganismo aislado en hemocultivos de pacientes con espondilodiscitis piógena. Material y métodos: Es un estudio transversal analítico, se revisaron expedientes clínicos de pacientes con espondilodiscitis piógena desde Enero de 2013 hasta Enero de 2017. Se realizó análisis descriptivo univariado usando frecuencias y porcentajes para variables cualitativas, medidas de tendencia central y dispersión para las cuantitativas. Análisis bivariado mediante prueba de χ2 o test exacto de Fisher. Análisis de variables cuantitativas mediante t Student o U de Mann-Whitney. Se usó coeficiente de correlación de Spearman. Considerando significancia estadística p < 0.05. Resultados: Se obtuvo una muestra de 34 pacientes, 20 (58%) fueron mujeres, mediana (Me) de edad 60 años (52-66). Se aisló en hemocultivos, bacterias Gram positivas 11 (32.4%) y Gram negativas 23 (67.6%). El microorganismo aislado más frecuente fue Escherichia coli 12 (35.3%). Los pacientes con espondilodiscitis por Gram negativas presentaron dolor leve y velocidad de sedimentación globular (VSG) Me 26 mm/hra P (18-36), los pacientes con espondilodiscitis por Gram positivas presentaron dolor severo y VSG Me 38 mm/h P (34-40) (p = 0.000 y 0.028, respectivamente). La VSG y dolor en el grupo de pacientes con espondilodiscitis por bacterias Gram negativas tuvo un coeficiente de correlación de Spearman moderado 0.418, (p = 0.047); en el grupo de Gram positivas, un coeficiente de correlación de Spearman bajo 0.228, (p = 0.507). Conclusión: Existe una asociación clínica y estadística de manera significativa entre los tipos de microorganismo aislado en hemocultivo, la intensidad del dolor valorado en escala visual análoga (EVA) y los niveles de VSG.
